Just got this from Stars:
We have calculated your refund using an equity based method. For the purposes of the calculations below, we must assume that all skill is equal. We cannot quantify poker abilities and PokerStars is not in the business of categorising players and ordering them through perceived skill level. Nor can PokerStars quantify the mindset of each player still remaining in the event, therefore all skill is assumed equal.
In essence, the calculation is based on the amount of chips at the time the server was restarted (20:39ET), chances of getting through to the next shoot-out round, combined with the chances of getting through to the final round and its related prize money for both rounds.
At the time of the restart, you had 8709 out of the total 30,000 chips in play on your shoot-out table. Since we assume all skill is equal, your chances of making it to the next shoot-out round are 29.03% (8709 / 30.000).
If you would make it through, 5/6 times you would finish 2nd to 6th in the next shoot-out for $2721.60. The other time (1/6), you would win and advance to the final shoot-out table. The average for the first 6 payouts is exactly $32,063,10.
This combined, would bring your total chip equity up to $7611.85 at the time of the restart. This is derived from: $2721.60 x 5/6 (=$2268), plus the $32,063.10 x 1/6 (=$5343.85)
However, the chances of making it through to the next round are 29.03%, leaving 60.97% for finishing in the payout section of $637.63 of the tournament.
All in all, this would bring your total refund up to the following:
29.03% of $7611.85 = $2209.72
60.97% of $637.63 = $388.76
__________+
$2598.48
-$637.63 (prize money already received)
Total Refund: $1960.85
